Siaya County League outfit Dero FC are brimming with confidence ahead of their Mozzart Bet Cup clash against record champions AFC Leopards at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, Siaya, today at 3:00 PM.

Despite the massive gap in experience and league status between the two teams, Dero FC is determined to fight and possibly pull off one of the biggest upsets in the FKF cup. Club representative Phelix Omondi acknowledged the tough challenge ahead but remained optimistic about his team’s chances.

“It’s not the first time we are facing them. The last time we played against them was in 2017 at Moi Stadium, Kisumu, in the same competition. We scored first, but they went on to score 15 goals against us. But I think this will be a good exposure for the boys. They’ll learn a lot apart from competing to move to the next round.”

Omondi further promised the club’s fans a spirited performance. “I promise the fans that the boys will fight to make them proud and knock out the FKF Premier League side AFC Leopards, this is the first competitive match at our new stadium and we must give it our all.” The last time the two sides met in this competition, AFC Leopards handed Dero FC a 15-1 thrashing.

However, Siaya-based is not dwelling on the past but rather looking at this fixture as an opportunity to showcase its growth and resilience. For AFC Leopards, a comfortable victory will be expected, but they cannot afford to underestimate a side eager to prove a point on home soil.

The Mozzart Bet Cup has seen its fair share of surprises with coast-based side Denmark FC knocking out Gor Mahia in the last edition, and Dero FC will be hoping to write their fairytale by eliminating one of Kenya’s most decorated clubs. With kickoff set for 3:00 PM, all eyes will be on Siaya Stadium to see if Dero FC can achieve the unthinkable and knock out the 10-time FKF Cup winners.
