The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has suspended Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi for 90 days as it begins an investigation into the player.

On Wednesday night, Matasi was snapped in a video where he was allegedly accused of planning to fix football games. While the time of the incident wasn’t revealed in the video, the player was a subject of discussion among football circles for the better part of today.

FKF had earlier on Thursday asked members of the public to come forward and present evidence on the claims, but went a step further in the evening by suspending the player currently on the books of Kakamega Homeboyz.

“The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has provisionally suspended goalkeeper Patrick Matasi from all FKF-sanctioned events and competitions for 90 days, following concerns raised by circulating videos suggesting possible match manipulation,” the Federation said in a statement.

“The decision, made under Section VII (2) of the FKF Anti-Match Manipulation Regulations (2016), has been formally communicated to Kakamega Homeboyz FC and the player.”

“FKF, in collaboration with FIFA, CAF, and other relevant authorities, has initiated an official investigation into the matter. The Federation remains committed to upholding integrity in football and ensuring a fair and transparent process for all involved parties.”

The Federation promised to update the public on the progress of their investigations, with reports rife that the player might consider retiring from active football following the current events.
