Mathare United head coach John Kamau has urged his troops to go for the three points when they take on Mara Sugar FC in the FKF Premier League on Friday.

The Slum Boys haven’t won in their last three games owing to their tendency to concede goals, and according to Kamau, they worked on their defence during the two-week break occasioned by the FIFA international break.

“We tried playing with a back four when the season started, and it backfired. We are trying to improve on that. We have two options now (back four and back three), but the most important thing is that people should know that we are still a work in progress. It has been a tough job here, and the mission is to remain in the league for now. I’ll be challenging the troop to get the three points (against Mara),” Kamau told the club’s media team.

Reflecting on the reverse fixture against Mara, where they conceded three goals, Kamau still believes they played but were undone by the opponents, who he says took their chances.

“In the game against Mara, we conceded goals when we were in possession, and we needed to check the transition part of the game. There were just clinical on the day. It is a team that has been together for at least three year’s and the togetherness is something that has helped them,” Kamau added.

Mathare are currently placed 13th with 27 points after 24 games with Mara just a point above them in 10th.
