The FKF Premier League continued for its Round 25, where the Mashemeji Derby was the biggest talking point of the week.

Away from the derby, Mathare United and FC Talanta picked up wins to ease relegation woes, with Murang’a Seal’s sorry outing continuing for another week. We take a look at the major talking points of the round.

Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards share spoils in the derby

The 96th Mashemeji Derby ended in a barren draw after 90 minutes in one of the most boring games in recent times. While there were positives to note in fans’ attendance of a game of this magnitude, players from both sides failed to ignite the spark that has been accustomed in the derby.

The draw not only dented Gor’s ambitions of defending their title as they are now five points off leaders Police FC after the law enforcers won their Sunday game, but left Leopards at fifth place, where they are just two points off eighth-placed Kakamega Homeboyz.

Mathare United come from behind to beat Mara

Mathare United came from a goal down to beat Mar Sugar FC 2-1. The win was an important one for the Slum Boyz whose main aim this season is to stay in the Kenyan top flight.

The loss was the latest dent in Mara’s surge in the league in what is proving to be a tough outing for them since parting ways with coach George Midenyo. The league newbies had a decent first half of the season but have regressed lately, where they are currently placed 11th with 28 points.

Kenya Police maintains top spot as Seal struggles continue

Kenya Police maintained their top spot on the league table following their narrow 1-0 win over Posta Rangers FC. Mohamed Bajaber once again popped up with the winner in what proved to be a good month for the youngster, who made his first start for Harambee Stars earlier in March.

Meanwhile, Murang’a Seal dropped to the playoff spot after going 3-0 down to Shabana FC. Seals are now just one point above bottom-placed Nairobi City Stars and Bidco United, who are the other teams struggling currently in the league.
