Veteran football tactician Robert Matano has promised to help KCB FC win a silverware after being unveiled by the club on Friday 27th June 2025.

In an interview with Capital Sports, Matano reveals the expectations on his shoulders but was ready to live up to them as he leads the bankers from next season.

“As a player, I also won the league with AFC Leopards. Many people don’t remember that. As a coach, I’ve also won the league so winning is part of me anyway, and everybody expects that from me. I think we’ll work for it; I always work to win and winning means trophies,” he said.

Matano arrives at the club after a short stint with Tanzania Premier League side Fountain Gate and will be hoping to win his fifth league title after previous heroics with Sofapaka (2009) and Tusker FC in 2012, 2020/21 and 2021/22.

Matano believes he has the players capable of challenging for title but admitted that he has to change the mentality around the club if he is to succeed.

“I am bringing brains behind everything we’re going to do. I cannot say much about specific areas in the team because all players are good. What we need to change is the mentality and the attitude we want to bring new life, new experience,” he said.

He arrives at a club who finished ninth with 42 points in the just concluded season and replaces Patrick Odhiambo who was sent parking by the bankers in May 2025.
