Kakamega Homeboyz registered their first win of the season following their 1-0 triumph over Sofapaka FC in a Sportpesa League game staged at the Dandora Stadium earlier on Friday.

Both teams came into the clash with the aim of registering their first win of the season with Homeboyz having been held by Mara Sugar FC and having lost to Gor Mahia and held by AFC Leopards.

The Patrick Odhiambo side wasted no time in showing their intent when offseason signing Josephat Lopaga latched onto Eugene Ochieng’s delivery to slot past Victor Kamungo in the Sofapaka goal just after three minutes into the game.

Despite the setback, Sofapaka failed to sit back and were almost rewarded with the equalizer before the quarter hour mark when keeper Edwin Mukolwe was forced to rush off his line to stop Douglas Kibet off his tracks when the striker broke free from Andrew Waswa’s clever ball.

In a match that was proving to be a two-way traffic, Lopaga was to narrowly miss the target in one of the visitors breaks but his goal was to be the difference at half time.

Sofapaka threw everything at Homeboyz in the second half and should have grabbed a goal or two with substitutes Henry Omollo and Oliver Majaka missing glorious opportunies in a half that the hosts dominated in their bid to grab an equalizer.

Attention for Homeoyz now shifts to their next game where they are set to face Bidco United with Sofapaka having a date against Murangá Seal.
