Gor Mahia edged out KCB 1-0 in a tense round-four encounter of the 2025/26 SportPesa Premier League at Dandora Stadium on Sunday, October 05.

Felix Oluoch Mboya scored the solitary goal at the hour mark to seal three points for K’Ogalo, who moved to third place on the log heading into the October FIFA international break. K’Ogalo is now within touching distance of leader Shabana, who drew 1-1 with Tusker FC.

The defeat extended the Bankers’ two-year winless run against Gor Mahia. KCB’s last victory over the 21-time champions was in January 2023, when they won 1-0. Since then, the sides have met six times, Gor Mahia winning twice and four matches ending in a draw.

KCB threatened first, almost snatching an early lead in the second minute. December Kisakah delivered a dangerous cross that Michael Kibwage headed clear. Ebenezer Adukwaw of Gor responded in the sixth minute when he rose high to meet an Austin Odhiambo free kick, but his header went off target.

Gor Mahia suffered a setback in the 15th minute when midfielder Alpha Onyango was stretched out with an injury and replaced by Fidel Origa. Gor Mahia wrestled back control of the game, and the grip on possession was evident. In the 29th minute, the 2023-2024 season’s Valuable Player, Austine Odhiambo, nearly broke the deadlock with a moment of intricate play, but KCB goalkeeper Elvis Ochoro reacted quickly to clear the danger.

KCB head coach Robert Matano made a tactical change on the half-hour mark, replacing Mathias Isogoli with Rowland Makati in the midfield. Despite the changes, centre referee Israel Mpaima blasted the first half whistle to end the first half goalless.

In the second half, Gor broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. Adukwaw picked up the ball deep in midfield and sliced through the Bankers’ defence before setting up Oluoch, who calmly tapped in for what proved to be the match-winner.

Gor had the chance to double their lead in the 79th minute after Osoro fouled Odhiambo inside the box, and a penalty was awarded.  However, Odhiambo saw his penalty saved.
