Harambee Stars midfielder Anthony Akumu has completed a move to Japanese J1 League side Sagan Tosu for an undisclosed period.
A statement from the club noted: “We are pleased to inform you that Anthony Akum has decided to join Sagan Tosu.”
On his side, the player noted:” I am honored to be a member of one of Japan’s leading J1 clubs. I will do my best to have a good season with this club.”

The player joins Tosu as a free agent having been without a club since July 2022 after terminating his contract with South African giants Kaizer Chiefs who had considered surplus to requirements. The Kenya international had join Chiefs in 2020 and made 47 appearances for the Glamour Boys before his departure.
Akumu will be joining another Kenyan in Ismail Dunga at the club. Dunga was on loan at Japanese J3 side Kamatamare Sanuki in the past season but with that deal set to expire at the end of this month, he is expected to report to his parent club earlier next year for preseason.
Akumu is one of the most revered midfielders in Kenya having represented Gor Mahia locally before featuring for Sudanese side Al Khartoum and Zambia giants Zesco United in his career. He has managed 45 appearances for the Kenya national team Harambee Stars.
He will be the fourth Kenyan to play in the Japanese top flight after Dunga, Michael Olunga and Ayub Timbe.
