Ipswich Town have announced the permanent signing of Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea in a club-record deal.
The 20-year-old winger was a star during the 2023-24 season, which resulted in the club spending big to secure his talents for the next five years where he scored 10 goals and provided six assists as they reached the Premier League after a 22-year absence.
In acquiring the winger permanently, manager Kieran McKenna said: “Omari is someone we all enjoyed working with last season and the staff, his teammates and supporters all saw how he grew and developed over the course of the year, which is a testament to the hard work he put in.
“The impact he had on the team throughout the season, especially in the latter part, was evidence of that and he, like so many of his teammates, played a significant part in that success for the club.
According to reports, Ipswich Town will pay up to £22 million for Hutchinson, smashing their previous transfer record of £4.5m for Sampdoria goalkeeper Matteo Sereni in 2001.
The Athletic reports that Stuttgart, Ajax, and Feyenoord were also keen on signing the Jamaica international from Chelsea.
