Harambee Stars defender Joseph Okumu has been linked with a move to Serie A side AS Roma this summer.

Okumu has only had one season with French Ligue One side Reims but there have been reports that the club is ready to cash on him should they find a suitable offer as many teams in the French top division are grappling with debts.

Roma have already secured the services of midfielder Enzo Le Fee from Rennes but according to Tuttomercatoweb, Roma are have reached out to Okumu’s entourage as they look to secure the services of the Kenyan to boost their defensive options.

The news portal claims it will take around 15 million euros (sh 2B) to sign the 27 year old from Reims who would replace Diego Llorente in Daniele De Rossi’s squad.

Okumu joined Reims in March 2023 from Belgian Pro League side KAA Gent and despite being hampered by injuries, he made 21 appearances for the French side with 19 being starts in all competitions.

The player has previously featured for IF Elfsborg in Sweden and made his national team debut on May 31 2016 in a friendly match against Sudan in Nairobi.

Should he move to the Serie A, he will be the second Kenyan player to do so after McDonald Mariga who represented FC Parma and Inter Milan.
