Harambee Stars midfielder Ismael Athuman is set to sign with Spanish third-tier side Real Murcia.
Athuman who can play as a defender too has been a free agent after parting ways with Aguilas in June 2024 and should he ink a deal with Murcia, it will mark his second spell with the club after spending the 2021/22 season with them.

The Nerve Africa reports that the player’s brother, Said Athuman, who acts as his agent, confirmed that the player will be signing a new deal in the coming weeks.
“We have been working behind the scenes, hoping to secure what we believe is the best option for Ismael (Athuman). We’re optimistic that a return to Real Murcia is the best possible choice, as he still has unfinished business there. Yes, we all agreed that two years is appropriate. Ismael still has a lot to offer,” Said said.
The player leaves Águilas after making 23 appearances last season across the Segunda RFEF (Fourth Division) and the prestigious Copa del Rey. He also scored two goals and provided one assist.
Born in Spain, the player came through the Las Palmas Academy and went on to play for them but lack of playing time has seen him represent clubs like CE Sabadell, Fuenlabrada, Recreativo Granada, and CP Cacereño previously.
Athuman was handed his Harambee Stars debut by Stanley Okumbi in 2016 and was a key figure as Kenya qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nations. He has since made 11 appearances for the Kenyan national team but has been left in the cold by recent coaches with his last appearance for the team coming in 2019.
