Bafana Bafana vice captain Percy Tau has officially parted ways with Egyptian football giants Al-Ahly and signed for Qatar SC in the Qatar Stars League (QSL)

The 2023 CAF interclub player of the year leaves the African champions following a decorated tenure, during which he won 12 major titles, including two prestigious CAF Champions League crowns.

Tau’s departure follows a fallout with Al-Ahly head coach Marcel Kohler late last year, leading the Swiss tactician to suggest the South African’s exit. Despite being linked with Kaizer Chiefs for over 12 months, Orlando Pirates, Zamalek SC, and Wydad Athletic Club, Tau opted to join Qatar SC.

Qatar SC, eight-time league champions, are enduring a challenging season. After 12 matches, they sit 11th on the table with 10 points, just three above bottom-placed Al Khor. The team has managed only three wins, a draw, and eight losses, putting them in a precarious position as they fight to avoid relegation. The Lion of Judah is expected to bring his attacking prowess to help the club climb the standings.

The former Brighton and Hove player has reportedly signed a six-month deal with Qatar SC, with an option to extend for an additional year if the team successfully avoids relegation. Tau watched his side fall heavily to Michael Olunga’s Al Duhail by 4 goals to 1 over the weekend however having passed his medicals with the club fans may see Tau in action soon, with a potential debut against second-placed Al-Sadd on January 23.

Tau’s move marks another milestone in his illustrious career, and his experience at the highest levels of African football could prove crucial in Qatar SC’s fight for survival.
