Kenyan Premier League side Kakamega Homeboyz has completed the signing of experienced Harambee Stars goalkeeper Patrick Matasi on a two-year deal after he departed from Kenya Police FC.

Despite struggling for form at Police, where he was relegated to the bench in favor of Job Ochieng, Homeboyz chairman Cleophas Shimanyula has expressed confidence in Matasi’s ability to revive his career and help the team achieve its ambitions.

Speaking to Flashscore, Shimanyula emphasized that the decision to sign Matasi was driven by the belief that he deserved another chance to prove himself at the top level.

“We have sealed the signing of Patrick (Matasi) after he agreed to join us on a two-year contract after leaving Police,” said Shimanyula. “We know he has not been performing to his best level at his former club, but I always believe that he deserves another chance to play again.”

The Homeboyz boss acknowledged that players often go through difficult spells but insisted that form is temporary, and class is permanent.

“He has promised to perform to his level best. We know players have those periods when their form is not good enough, so it doesn’t mean you look down upon them. You give them another chance, and that is why I have decided to give Matasi another opportunity to shine here at Homeboyz,” added Shimanyula.

Matasi becomes Homeboyz’s first signing of the current transfer window, with Shimanyula confirming that they plan to make at least four to five more signings in key areas as per the technical bench’s recommendations.

“Our main target still remains to win the FKF Premier League title and the domestic cup at the end of the season, and Matasi has promised to do his best and help us reach our goal,” he noted.

Homeboyz, who have been consistent contenders in the FKF Premier League, are keen on strengthening their squad to challenge for major honors. With Matasi’s vast experience, they hope to solidify their goalkeeping department as they push for the league title and the FKF cup.

Matasi, 37, has had an illustrious career, featuring for clubs like Posta Rangers, Tusker FC, and Ethiopia’s St. George. He was Kenya’s first-choice goalkeeper at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and remains one of the most experienced shot-stoppers in the country.

His arrival at Homeboyz presents an opportunity to regain his best form and reclaim his place among the top goalkeepers in the FKF Premier League.
