Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has signed for Scottish side Dunfermline Athletic until the end of the season.

Wanyama has been a free agent since leaving Major League Soccer (MLS) side Montreal Impact in December 2024 and rejoins coach Neil Lennon whom he worked with during his time at Celtic.

“DAFC are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama, on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance,” the club said in a statement. “The 33-year-old defensive midfielder has had a decorated career, playing for clubs such as Celtic, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and most recently, CF Montreal.

“Wanyama made 64 appearances for Kenya, captaining the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, before retiring from international football in 2021.”

Wanyama is revered in Scotland owing to his stint at Celtic where he became a cult hero with his impressive performances. Besides winning two league titles, his stock rose when he scored against Barcelona in the Champions League as Celtic pulled off a 2-1 win back in 2012.

Founded in 1885, Dunfermline Athletic Club currently plays in the Scottish Championship (the nation’s second tier) after winning the 2022–23 Scottish League One title. They play their home games at the 11000 capacity East End Park

They haven’t been doing well in their debut season in the Championship as they are placed second-last in the 10-table league with 27 points after 29 games. They travel to Ayr in their next game this weekend as Wanyama hopes he can make his debut then.
