Mathare United defender Cetric Asango will be out of action for 10 weeks

Mathare United will not have defender Cetric Asango for selection for the remainder of the first leg the club has confirmed.

Asango has an interstitial tear will however not require surgery after the club had fears earlier that he might have torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

“Cetric Asango will not be with the squad for the remainder of the season’s first leg and possibly the start of the second leg after being diagnosed with an interstitial tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of his right knee,” the club said in a statement.

“The defender, who is in his third season with the team, started feeling discomfort in the area during preseason, but through coordinated strength training, he was able to start the season. However, with only four matches played, the issue cropped up again with his last appearance being the matchday eight fixture against APS Bomet in Kericho.

“Initially thought to be a full-blown ACL tear, this latest development is a sigh of relief for the 30-year-old as he avoids surgery, which would have led to him sitting out the rest of the campaign.”

The player who is one of the longest-serving players in the current Mathare squad, is expected to rejoin the rest of his teammates in 10 weeks.
