Gor Mahia coach Johnny McKinstry has admitted that his side were not at their best in their 2-1 win over Mathare United on Wednesday.

Gor had been pegged by Ronald Sichenje after Philemon Otieno had given them the lead but had to thank Boniface Omondi for his goal on the hour mark as they collected all the points to extend their lead at the top of the FKF Premier League table.

McKinstry while admitting that he was pleased with their outing, lauded his charges for adapting to the changes he made by getting what was required of them which was the three points.

“We were a little bit flat today (Wednesday) and we spoke about it at half-time. We did a little better in the second half after changing the formation and getting a small number through the center but overall, I can’t say it was a good performance. There was some nice passage of play but it was in slow motion because the pitch was a little bit heavy so the ball was moving slowly but you cant use that as an excuse because you have to play the passes with a little more energy.

“We did enough to win the game, created some chances but disappointed with the way we conceded because its an area we knew because Mathare generally attack with their wingers so we knew that would have been their strength and prepared for the same so Im a bit disappointed with that. We were not at our best but if you are to win trophies, you have to get results even if you are not at your best,” the Irishman remarked.

Attention for Gor now shifts to their next tie where they are set to meet Wazito this weekend.
