Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has issued a clarification regarding the circumstances surrounding the Kenya U15 boys’ and girls’ teams’ delayed departure from the African Schools Football Championship in Uganda.

The clarification comes amid reports that claimed Kenya’s U15 players were stranded in Uganda with no accommodation arrangements after Ugandan government officials blocked their planned departure.

FKF has refuted the claims, stating that the teams checked out of their accommodation as scheduled, but their transport delayed in arrival, and hence unable to travel due to Ministry of Education regulations prohibiting night travel for junior teams.

“On 10 December 2025, the teams checked out of their accommodation as scheduled. However, a delay in the arrival of transport meant that the delegation could not depart on time. In line with Ministry of Education guidelines restricting night travel for junior teams, the delegation remained at the host school overnight.” FKF statement reads.

FKF further clarified that the players and officials remained overnight at the host school, St. Mary’s Kitende, which, in collaboration with CECAFA, provided full support for the team.

“CECAFA and St. Mary’s Kitende ensured that the teams were fully supported throughout this period. CECAFA has since informed CAF of the situation and confirmed that the welfare, comfort, and safety of the Kenyan delegation were prioritised while on site.”

The Federation acknowledged the logistical and administrative challenges encountered during the CAF African Schools Championship CECAFA Qualifiers.

FKF has indicated that it is reviewing internal processes to improve planning and coordination for future international engagements.

FKF extends its gratitude to CECAFA and the hosts for their cooperation and reiterates its commitment to delivering safe, well-organised environments for all national youth teams.

The Kenya U15 teams were both eliminated at the group stage, finishing in third place in their respective groups.
