Mathare United association with the FKF Premier League came to an end on Wednesday following their 1-1 draw with Ulinzi Stars at Kasarani Annex.

Mathare survived the chop last season after the 2021/22 campaign was declared bull and void by the Football Kenya Federation. With their inclusion in the new season challenged, the Slum Boyz had to start the season late but seemed not to have prepared well for the vagaries that came with participating in the top flight.

Despite their woes for the better part of the season that saw them have three managers, they have been handing debuts to some young and unknown talent so it wasn’t a surprise when Lennox Kimani, who was earning his first start for the club, gave them a 19th-minute lead with a sumptuous goal; a lead they were to maintain until the half time break.

Their opponents Ulinzi who have blown hot and cold through the season under Benard Mwalala rallied and got their equalizer 12 minutes from time for a share of the spoils.

The draw coupled by Wazito FC’s win over Bidco United at Thika United ensured that Collins Omondi’s side will be participating in the National Super League next season.

Mathare are on 23 points, six points off the safety places, and will have a date with Wazito FC in the final game of the season scheduled for Muhoroni Stadium.
