Mathare United head coach Salim Ali has refused to blame goalkeeper Job Ochieng for their weekend loss at the hands of Bidco United.

Mathare United had taken the lead through Tyson Otieno in the first half but Bidco turned the tide in the second half with Ochieng missing a back pass from his defender Lennox Ogutu in the dying minutes of the game.

Speaking about the incident to the club’s media team, Ali said: “It happens in football. He had played a superb game up until that point and it was just bad luck. He is a young player who has improved immensely since we brought him onboard and what we can only do as a team is to uplift him. He is a strong boy and I know he will bounce back.”

On the game, Ali admitted that he was disappointed by the result but not the performance of his charges; the tactician revealing that they will not sign any player apart from midfielder David Simiyu.

“It’s a disappointment because just like any other game, we approached it with the full intentions of securing all the three points but we fell short at the end. It was an unfortunate way to lose but the disappointment is not with the performance but with the result itself.

“We are good to go with the one player we have signed already. You have to remember that we started the season a bit late than the other teams so there is no need to disrupt the group that we had already assembled. So let’s give it time and see how they gel together,” Ali added.

Next up for Mathare United who is placed 16th on the league log is a tie against Wazito FC; a club managed by former boss Francis Kimanzi.
