FKF Premier League side Tusker FC is on the verge of having a women’s team as it will be a requirement for teams participating in CAF competitions next year.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) insists that any men’s team without a women’s team will be prohibited from participating in CAF inter-club competitions starting from the 2023-24 season and Tusker through CEO Sam Nzau are already working on having on the matter.

In an in-depth interview with the club’s media, Nzau indicated that having a women’s team was something that they had started working on earlier even before the CAF directive and by the end of the season, they should have one join the Tusker family.

“Even before CAF sent the requirement, we had already foreseen this and had already started engaging women’s clubs. There are two ways we are looking into this. One is we can go and find a way to buy a women’s team and absorb it into the Tusker family or we can partner with a women’s team and build an affiliation through that.

“At this moment there are conversations ongoing and by the end of the season we should have either bought a women’s team or affiliated with a women’s team,” Nzau said.

Despite being placed second on the league table with two games to go, Tusker is still one of the favorites to win the league title this season but should they fail to defend their crown, they can still make it to CAF competition through the FKF Cup where they are set to face Kakamega Homeboyz in the finals.
