The Kenya Women Under 20 football team, Rising Starlets, captain Jane Hato has joined FKF Women National Super League side Mathare United Women for an undisclosed period.

Hato has been in the books of Madira Soccer Assassins who she helped to FKF Women Premier League promotion last season; the team expected to suffer a big blow as they struggle with the demands of top-flight football where they are currently placed 10th with 8 points.

The move comes days after the player was heavily linked with a move to Tanzania’s Yanga Queens where her counterparts Janet Bundi and Irene Madalina had moved to last month.

Hato should feel at home in Mathare as she will be returning to a club she featured for before with the team currently being coached by her mum Ann Aluoch who previously captained the Kenya national women’s team Harambee Starlets.

Taking to social media, Hato said: “I am thrilled to announce that I am joining Mathare United Women Team. This is where my football journey began. Excited about the prospect of making history and winning trophies with this esteemed club.

“Gratitude to my new teammates, the entire club, and the passionate supporters for this exciting opportunity. Let’s embark on this journey together and create memorable moments this season and beyond.”

The Star reports that Bunyore Starlets’ winger Susan Muhonja who has been nursing a knee injury since mid 2022/2023 season, has been earmarked as Hato’s replacement at the club.

Hato was a key player for the Rising Starlets last year as their quest to qualify Kenya for the 2024 FIFA U20 Women World Cup was quashed by Cameroon.
