Kenyan striker Judith Atieno has left Rwandese Women top flight side Rayon Sports Women’s team after two years.

Atieno joined the side when they were still in the nation’s second tier and helped them to promotion in her first season before helping them to the league title in their first time of asking.

The team is set to represent Rwanda in the next edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League but they will do so without Atieno who bagged 52 goals during her stay in the Rwandese capital.

In a long Facebook post, Atieno said of her departure;

After an incredible 2-year journey with the Rayon Sports Women, we have collectively decided to part ways.

“My time here has been marked by victories and successes and I have left the club handful having won 4 prestigious trophies.  Notable among these accomplishments was guiding the team to promotion from Division One to the top-tier league in the 2022/23 season. I finished as the second-highest scorer with an impressive total of 43 goals with 20 assists in just 22 matches.

Also won the Women Peace Cup, Heroes Cup, and Women’s Cup title. I take pride in my contribution to the team, having scored 52 goals and provided 32 assists during my time here in the last 2 seasons.

I express my sincere gratitude to the club and its management for the unforgettable journey, without forgetting the entire technical bench and my fellow players. Thank you for an amazing journey.

Thank you also for support and warmth shown by the amazing people of Rwanda 🇷🇼 who have made this place feel like a second home to me.

As I recover from a knee injury, I eagerly look forward to unveiling my next career move in the near future. See you soon.
