For the first time in history, the Kenyan top-flight men’s league (the FKF Premier League) will have a female coach on the touchline.

The move comes after FC Talanta secured the services of coach Jackline Juma who has predominantly coached women’s teams in her career but ahead of the new season, Juma has urged women coaches to step up and never shy from leading men’s teams.

“This is another experience I want to gain,” Juma told the FKF Media. “I believe that gender shouldn’t be a barrier in coaching and that’s why I am here. I want to show them (women coaches) that they are capable and they should just believe in themselves.”

Juma will be taking a team that just escaped relegation by a whisker but she has already laid out her plan stating that she wouldn’t want her side to be in the same situation they were in last season where they left it late to secure their top-flight status.

“We don’t want to find ourselves that we were in the last season. (It is too early to state our) so for us, we will be taking one game at a time,” Juma added

Juma, a CAF A licensed coach, has garnered extensive experience with clubs such as Acakoro, Gor Mahia Queens, and the U15 girls national team. She is also a CAF Elite coach educator.
