Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has praised her team’s effort despite ending their 2024 FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup campaign in the group stage.

Starlets lost their first two games against England and North Korea and won their last game against Mexico and while many would have been disappointed, Cheche believes they have what it takes to qualify for the next World Cup with the support that Kenyans accorded them.

“I feel great, I’m so happy for the girls. They gave their all, and in the end, we got the win (against Mexico),” the coach said after the Thursday morning win.

“A big thank you to all Kenyans for supporting the girls and watching the match at 2 AM; we appreciate you. Let’s keep going, let’s stay together, and let’s continue training to ensure that we qualify for the next World Cup.”

The tactician further believes that with more preparations and better plans, Kenya will be a consistent figure in international tournaments.

“I believe that with the help of the Federation and the Government, we will be a better team. We need to participate in more friendlies and tournaments to ensure that we prepare well for competitions,” she added.

Kenya began her campaign in the World Cup with a 2-0 loss to England before going 3-0 down to Korea DPR and finishing the tournament with a 2-1 win over Mexico.
