The Kenya U17 women’s team, Junior Starlets, have earned a nomination in the 2024 Confederation of Africa (CAF) end-of-the-year awards.

Starlets made it to the FIFA Under 17 Women’s World Cup with that feat earning them a nomination in the Player, National Team, and Coach of the Year categories.

Striker Valerie Nekesa, a standout performer for the Junior Starlets, has been nominated for the Young Player of the Year award while coach Mildred Cheche has been shortlisted for Coach of the Year. Coach Cheche made history as the first Kenyan coach to lead a team to a FIFA World Cup.

The winners will be determined through a voting process involving the CAF Technical Committee, media professionals, and Head Coaches and Captains of Member Associations, as well as clubs participating in CAF Interclub competitions.

The 2024 CAF Awards will honor achievements between January and October 2024. The ceremony is scheduled for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.
