AFC Leopards striker Arthur Gitego has expressed his desire to leave the club in the short January 2025 window.

The Rwandese has been a topic of discussion in recent months after reports emerged that his off-field lifestyle had affected his form and that the club were willing to cash on him if the right offer came for him.

In an interview with Rwanda Times, the striker who is said to be in talks with several teams, has revealed that Leopards have refused to let him go after he asked to be released.

“I asked them [to release me] but they refused,” Gitego said. “I had many offers but they didn’t understand. They continue to play little tricks. I think I have been left with no choice but to stay,” the forward said.”

“I have written to them a letter asking for a separation but they have not responded, which means I have to sit down and finish my contract with the club.”

Gitego joined AFC Leopard in February 2024 and had a brilliant start to life at the den where he was the top scorer in the Mozzartbet Cup after finishing with five goals.

He had been linked with a move away from the club in June 2024 but made a U-turn to stay. Things haven’t been moving for the striker as he has found games hard to come by in recent games more so after the sacking of Thomas Trucha.

Gitego previously played for Heroes FC, Kiyovu Sports and Gicumbi FC with his last stint in Rwanda being with Marines FC where he scored 16 goals in his one-and-a-half-year spell.
