The goal came against Oldham as the midfielder potentially running down a blind alley to the corner flag, collected a pass and in an instant, halted his run, swivelled and sent a delightful curler into the far corner.
“Thank you to all the Tranmere fans who voted for me to win this award, it means a lot. It’s been a tough few months for us, but we’re fully focused on doing what we need to do in the last four games to keep the Club in the division,” Obiero is quoted by the club’s portal.
On his part, lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports Pundit Don Goodman said: “There was so much to like about Zech Obiero’s goal against Oldham. Shaped as if he was running away from goal, a smart Cruyff turn bought him a yard and the curling finish into the top corner was sublime.”
Obiero beat off competition from Fleetwood Town’s Mark Helm, Newport County’s Bobby Kamwa and Crewe Alexandra’s Reece Hutchinson.
Obiero who has a goal and an assist in his two caps for the national team will be hoping for more minutes when they host Bristol Rovers later today.
