The Tanzania national team was beaten 2-1 by Sudan in a friendly game staged in Saudi Arabia at the King Fahad Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Aldhayib Abdirizak gave the Sudan team the lead after 11 minutes with Issa Vitalis doubling their lead on the 27th minute.

Tanzania had paraded a youthful-looking side, with the team captained by Belgian-based striker Kelvin John, finding it hard to break their opponents. They however managed to pull a goal back ten minutes from time through Ahmad Ibrahim Ahmada Hilika.

Ghanaian Kwesi Appiah, who led the Sudan team, said he was happy with the game as he helped him test his fringe players ahead of next month’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers where they will be up against Mauritania and South Sudan.

Taifa Stars acting coach Hemed Morocco said his players made some mistakes early in the game but improved later after recess. Tanzania are fourth in Group E with three points in the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers and will face Zambia next month.

The two teams will face off again on Saturday in another friendly match.
