Harambee Stars midfielder Eric Johanna Omondi was on the scoresheet to help UTA Arad beat Sepsi 2-1 in a Romania top-flight league game staged on Saturday afternoon.

Omondi gave the hosts a 35th-minute lead when his shot, after being put through by Fabry, deflected off an opposition defender and into the net; the goal being the difference between the sides in the first half.

Diogo Rodrigues doubled the hosts’ lead five minutes after resumption to ensure that Stefanescu’s penalty goal six minutes from time was just a mere consolation for the visitors.

Omondi was withdrawn on the hour mark for Argentine Lopez but the win gives his team some breathing space as they moved to 12th on the 16-team table after collecting 27 points in the 23 games played.

UTA will be hoping to jump higher the table next weekend when they travel to Universitatea Cluj who are currently placed seventh on the table on 32 points.

In Scotland, striker Jonah Ayunga managed 64 minutes as St. Mirren went 0-1 down to giants Rangers in the Scottish Premiership.

Rangers all-important goal was bagged by Dessers in the 14th minute with the win helping them consolidate their second place on the table with 52 points, two points below leaders Celtic who were to play a game more later in the evening. Mirren remains in fifth place with 29 points after 23 games.
