Tanzania’s football giants Simba SC have sacked head coach Dimitar Pantev and his two assistants after losing both of the club’s CAF Champions’ League group-stage matches.
The Wekundu wa Msimbazi made the announcement immediately after the team arrived back from Mali after their 2-1 defeat to Stade Malien in the CAF Champions League, today, Tuesday December 02.

The 49-year-old Bulgarian has been replaced with Selemani Matola with Riedoh Berdien slotting in as his assistant on an interim basis, as the club scouts for a new coach.
The Bulgarian tactician’s departure brings to a close a relatively short but eventful stint at the helm of the Tanzanian giants. Pantev, who took over from Fadlu Davids in October, failed to impress after losing both of the club’s CAF Champions’ League group-stage matches.

Simba lost their opening two CAF CL group stage matches, which dents their chances of making it out of the group stages. They sit at the bottom of Group D, which also includes Petro Atlético, Stade Malien, and Esperance Tunis, with zero points.
However, in the current 2025-2026 NBC Premier League season, Simba SC is in the 7th position with 9 points from 3 games and boasts a high goal difference and has played fewer matches than some of their rivals due to their involvement in continental football.
The new bench will be hoping for a change of fortunes starting with their next league clash on December 03, against Tabora United FC.
