Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Mick Mwendwa has urged Kenyan fans to be positive ahead of Harambee Stars tests against Burundi and Ivory Coast in Malawi.

Stars were scheduled to host the two games in Kenya but due to the unavailability of approved grounds by the Confederations of African Football (CAF), the games have been taken to Malawi.

The move has caused an uproar from Kenyan fans who wanted to watch their players back at home but Mwendwa has called on them to remain positive despite the challenges.

“Every team always wishes to play their home matches at home. This is something I would not have wanted (to play home matches away from home). Nonetheless, I am appealing to Kenyans to remain positive and support the team,” Mwendwa is quoted by the Federation’s portal.

Mwendwa further revealed that they had reached out to neighbours Tanzania and Uganda to help them host the games as they considered close venues to Kenya but none was available.

“We did our best to have a venue close to Kenya. We got in touch with the Federations of Tanzania and Uganda, but it was impossible to get a venue there because they are booked,” he added.

Stars currently sits third out of six in Group F of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers, having picked up three points from the opening two matches against Gabon and Seychelles.
