Mathare United earned their first home victory of the SportPesa Premier League 2025/26 season with a commanding 2–0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz on Saturday evening at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
Second-half goals from Donald Ange and an Eugene Okoth own goal, forced by a deflected John Nyawir effort, sealed the points for the Slum Boys, ending their four-match winless run while stretching Homeboyz’s skid to three games.

Mathare lined up in a 4-4-2 diamond, with Ouru between the posts. Fidel Castro and Nyawir operated as fullbacks. Francis Kayugi and Ian Omondi marshalled the centre of defence. Brian Rio Ochieng anchored the base in the midfield, supported by Steve Kimari and Brian Ouru, while the in-form Elli Asieche played at the tip of the diamond. Ange partnered Dennis Okoth up front.
Homeboyz made a single change, welcoming back captain Moses Mudavadi from injury to replace Derrick Otanga. Edwin Mukolwe kept his spot in goal, shielded by a backline of John Omondi, Boniface Onyango, Eugene Okoth, and Potiphar Odhiambo.Their midfield trio of Hillary Juma, Eston Omengo, and Rodgers Ouma supported an attacking unit of Mudavadi, Josphat Lopaga, and Henry Omollo.

The visitors started brighter. In the 10th minute, a defensive lapse opened a two-versus-one chance for Omollo and Lopaga, but Mathare fullback Fidel Omondi recovered brilliantly to snuff out the danger.
Seven minutes later, Homeboyz nearly struck again, only for Rodgers Ouma’s low drive to rattle the upright. Both sides ultimately headed into the break without registering a shot on target.
Mathare Head Coach John Kamau reacted at halftime with a double substitution, introducing Musa Masika and Paul Kinyanjui for Kimari and Dennis Okoth. The decision paid off quickly: in the 52nd minute, Masika held up play expertly before releasing Nyawir down the flank.

The fullback’s driven effort took a touch off Eugene Okoth and into the net to hand Mathare the lead. With ten minutes left, Masika and Nyawir combined once more on the left. Nyawir whipped in a superb cross, and Donald Ange rose highest to nod home his first goal of the campaign, sealing the win.
The result denies Abana Beingo the chance to go top of the table, while Mathare celebrate a much-needed return to winning ways. A victory would have lifted Abana Beingo to 18 points and placed them temporarily at the summit. Homeboyz entered the match just one point behind leaders Gor Mahia, who sat on 16 points.
