12-time Kenyan Premier League champions AFC Leopards are set to release twelve players from their squad in preparation for the upcoming 2024/25 FKF Premier League season.
Among the players bound to be axed include team captain Washington Munene, longest-serving player Jaffari Owiti and Cliff Nyakeya.
Majority of the players departing are those who lacked playing time and whose deals with the club expired last month. Munene and Owiti’s contract with Ingwe came to an end of June and the club didn’t have any plans of extending their stay. Winger Cliff Nyakeya is also leaving after terminating his contract after allegations linking him with a fallout with the team’s head coach Tomas Trucha at the start of 2024.
Others leaving are Dan Sunguti, Shawn Oloo, Giovanni Lukhumwa, Zachary Njite, Lameck Moendi, Yasin Sije, Brian Mandela, Nesta Olum and Owen Mboya.
Leopards who also finished sixth in the 2023/24 campaign and third in the FKF Mozzart Bet Cup respectively are keen on making important additions to the den as they purpose to revive their lost glory.
Kariobangi Sharks FC winger Julius Masaba and Muranga Seal shot stopper Bonphas Munyasa are some of the names being linked to be on the radar of AFC.
