Uganda started their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a valuable 1-1 draw away to Tunisia in Radès on Thursday night.
The hosts took an early lead through Adem Arous, who struck in the 12th minute to give new coach Mouine Chaâbani a perfect start to his first competitive match in charge.

Uganda, however, stayed in the contest and were rewarded in the 68th minute when Rogers Mato levelled for Paul Put’s side.
The Cranes held on for a point against one of Africa’s established sides as they continue preparations for the 2027 AFCON finals, which Uganda will co-host alongside Kenya and Tanzania.

Elsewhere, Zimbabwe produced the comeback of the night, overturning a 2-0 half-time deficit to beat Sierra Leone 3-2. Alie Conteh and Sallieu Tarawallie had put Sierra Leone in control, but Marshall Munetsi pulled one back in the 72nd minute before Tawanda Chirewa equalised four minutes later. Munetsi completed the turnaround two minutes from time.
Cameroon also made a winning start, defeating Comoros 3-1 in Garoua. David Ningo, Bryan Mbeumo and Danny Namaso scored for the Indomitable Lions, with Warmed Omari replying for Comoros.
Cote d’Ivoire completed the winners with a 2-0 victory over Ghana in Bouaké. Malick Yalcouyé and Franck Kessié were on target for the Elephants.
