Kenya women’s national under-17 football team, Junior Starlets, will face hosts Tanzania in the group stage of the 2026 CECAFA U-17 Women’s Championship set to take place in Dar es Salaam from June 13-23.

The regional tournament, organized by Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), will feature seven teams competing for top honours in the annual youth competition.

According to the draw conducted on Thursday at the FUFA TV headquarters in Kampala, Kenya were placed in Group A alongside hosts Tanzania, Somalia and Sudan. Group B will consist of Uganda, South Sudan and Djibouti.

The tournament will also mark a historic milestone as both Somalia and Sudan are set to participate in the championship for the first time.

Speaking after the draw, CECAFA Head of Marketing and Communication Andrew Jackson Oryada welcomed the expansion of the competition, noting that the tournament offers member associations an opportunity to strengthen their women’s youth football structures.

“We are delighted that Somalla and Sudan will for the first time take part in the Championship which also provides Member Associations in the Zone with the opportunity to build the Women’s Youth teams,” said Oryada.

Kenya will head into the tournament hoping to make a strong impression against regional rivals and continue the growth of women’s football in the country.
