The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded Ghana the hosting rights for the 2027 Under 20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The move comes exactly 28 years after the Black Satellites lifted the trophy on home soil in 1999 with the news greeted with widespread excitement across the Ghanaian football community, coming at a time when the nation is preparing for the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.

Ghana last hosted the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 1999 and on that occasion, the Black Satellites rose to the occasion lifting the trophy on home soil. The timing carries an additional layer of meaning as the 2027 tournament coincides with Ghana’s 70th Independence anniversary.
CAF has confirmed it will work closely with the GFA and a soon-to-be-established Local Organising Committee to ensure the successful planning and execution of the tournament.
That collaboration is expected to focus on infrastructure readiness, logistics, security, and the overall fan experience, all aimed at delivering a world-class event worthy of Africa’s growing football stature.
Ghana’s selection is no surprise to those who have watched the country step up to host major football and sporting events in recent years. They hosted the senior Africa Cup of Nations in 2008 and hosted the 2018 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
More recently, Ghana hosted the 13th African Games from March 8 to 23, 2024, with Accra serving as the main host city alongside sub-hosts Kumasi and Cape Coast. They also hosted the WAFU Zone B U-17 Cup of Nations in 2024, with the tournament held at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra.
