Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Italy international midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United on a permanent transfer.

Newcastle confirmed Tonali’s departure on Sunday, revealing that the transfer fee, although undisclosed, represents the second-highest amount the club has ever received for a player. The Magpies thanked the 26-year-old for his contribution during his time on Tyneside and wished him success in the next chapter of his career.

Tonali arrives in North London after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s standout midfielders. During his spell at Newcastle, he made 110 appearances, scored 10 goals and played a key role in helping the club lift the 2025 Carabao Cup, ending a 70-year wait for a major domestic trophy.

Speaking after completing the move, Tonali admitted Tottenham was always his preferred destination despite interest from several clubs.

“I’m very happy to be here. When I arrived at the club today, it felt fantastic. People said there were four or five clubs interested, but for me there was only one,” he said.

“I spoke to the head coach for close to two hours about the club, the fans, the stadium and our football. It was like magic because I knew immediately that I had to sign for Tottenham. I’ve played against Tottenham a few times and always found a great atmosphere made by great fans. I can’t wait to start the season.”

Tonali now begins a new chapter in North London as Tottenham strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season, while Newcastle move forward after cashing in on one of their most influential midfielders.
