Owalo, who was Odinga’s deputy, assumed the role in an acting capacity after the demise of Odinga in India on 15th October 2025.
“This is to formally notify the general public, the football fraternity in general and the Gor Mahia Football Club members in particular and the Gor Mahia fans at large, that the club has confirmed the appointment of Hon. Eliud Owalo FHRM, FESK, EGH as the substantive club patron with effect from the first day of November, 2025,” part of the communication noted.
Odinga, a long-time supporter and influential figure within Gor Mahia, had served as patron for decades, providing both symbolic and material support. The club decided to appoint Owalo as his deputy in April 2025 with the politician having been a key figure for the club in recent years in helping them navigate through financial challenges.
He has since acquired a state of the art bus for the club through his foundation and is in the process of helping the club acquire land where they are expected to build their own stadium.
