The UK trip saw a series of players convinced to play with the team with the lot including Zak Vyner of Wrexham and Tyler Onyango of Everton FC; Zech Obiero and Clarke Oduor being the two to have played for the county in the last International window.

In his latest interview with iDiski Times senior journalist Matshelane Mamabolo, McCarthy revealed that he had done with his scouting for Kenyan players in Europe with his next task set to land him in Germany.

“There are a couple of players playing in Scotland and in England. So, I go and just try and keep up with the players that we have closer. I’m flying from here to Kenya,” the former Manchester United coach said.

“From Kenya to Germany, because like I said, there’s a boy at Bayern Munich’s U21s, who is also training with the first team. There’s one at FC Cologne and another at Hoffenheim. And then there’s another one playing in Bundesliga Two. So yeah, we’ve got some top boys – about five – that if we can get and add to the team, things will improve.

“That’s high-quality players, decent standard. So yeah, the better team that you can recruit, the more chances we have to succeed.”

The player at Bayern Munich is Sadiki Chemwor but the left winger will be signing for Frankfurt in the summer, with the other being Linton Maina of FC Cologne.

Stars had reached out to Maina before but he has been hesitant to change his nationality but with chances for playing for the Germany national team being slim, he might consider his options.

With Kenya being a co-host in the next Africa Cup of Nations, McCrathy would love a solid team for the tournament with preparations towards the same having already started with the FIFA Series staged in Rwanda last week where they faced Estonia and Grenada.
