Just a day after sealing the 2025/2026 SportPesa Premier League title in a packed and jubilant Nyayo Stadium, Gor Mahia FC made a symbolic and emotional visit to the Karen home of the Odinga family, where they presented their two major trophies to Mama Ida Odinga.

The delegation, comprising club officials, technical bench and players, was led by chairman Ambrose Rachier, who formally handed over the league trophy alongside the ODM Cup won earlier in Mombasa. The gesture was described as the fulfilment of a promise linked to the late former club patron Raila Odinga, whose influence on the club’s recent revival was strongly acknowledged throughout the ceremony.

Rachier reflected on previous interactions with the Odinga family, recalling earlier meetings with both Mama Ida and the late Raila Odinga, whom he credited for supporting the club during difficult financial periods. He said the former patron had challenged the team to raise their standards and set clear targets, including winning the ODM Cup and reclaiming the league title.

“Today we are here to present the trophies as promised. We are grateful for the guidance and support we received,” Rachier noted, while highlighting the emotional significance of the visit.

Mama Ida Odinga warmly received the champions, congratulating the team for their achievement and expressing appreciation for their continued bond with the family. She welcomed them to visit more often, describing the day as special following the passing of her husband.

She praised the players’ effort, dedication and unity, noting that the family remains closely connected to the club.

Raila Odinga Jr., also present, said the visit was inspired by the warm reception he received at Nyayo Stadium during the title celebrations and called for continued unity and celebration of the club’s success.
