Harambee Stars will face Rwanda in an international friendly on October 5 at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali as both sides prepare for the next round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

Kenya started their Group D campaign with a 1-1 draw against Eritrea before suffering a 1-0 defeat to Guinea in Conakry on Thursday.

The result left Harambee Stars with one point from their opening two matches, although Kenya are already assured of a place at the 2027 AFCON finals as co-hosts alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

The friendly against Rwanda will provide head coach Benni McCarthy with an opportunity to assess his squad ahead of the next round of competitive fixtures.

Rwanda head into the encounter in strong form after winning their opening two Group K qualifiers. The Amavubi defeated Cape Verde 2-1 away before recording a 3-1 home victory over Liberia to move top of their group with six points.

The win over Cape Verde also earned Rwanda 18.15 FIFA ranking points and could see them rise from 128th to 119th in the next world rankings, a position they last occupied in 2017.

For Kenya, the Kigali encounter offers McCarthy another chance to assess his options and potentially give opportunities to players who featured sparingly during the opening AFCON qualifiers.

The match will also give Harambee Stars valuable preparation ahead of their next competitive assignment as they continue building towards AFCON 2027.
