Gor Mahia began their 2024 CECAFA Kagame Cup competition with a 1-0 loss to Red Arrows on Wednesday 10th July 2024 in a match staged at the Azam Complex, Tanzania.
After a goalless first half, the all-important goal was bagged by James Chamanga who opped in from close range after the Kenyan side had failed to clear their lines.
New coach Leo Neiva wasted no time in introducing Samuel Kapen, formerly with Nairobi City Stars, to his starting team but the start to the game wants something he would have loved as they were pinned back for the better part of the first quarter of the game.
Leiva made several changes to the team but couldn’t just get the elusive goal that would have prevented his side from going down.
Gor will now have to beat Sudan’s Al Hilal in their next game set for Saturday, July 13, with their opponents having opened their campaign with a convincing 2-0 win over ASAS Djibouti Telecom in another Group B game staged earlier on Wednesday.
