Paris Saint Germain left it late to rescue a 1-1 draw against bottom side Clermont at the Parc des Princes.
With more than one eye on Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final, Luis Enrique rested most of his big guns but his side still dominated the opening proceedings of the game.
17-year-old debutant Senny Mayulu threatened early on, whipping a dangerous cross in that evaded everyone as Clermont just looked to hold on. Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani combined for most of PSG’s other best chances but they could not break the deadlock.
Instead, Clermont shocked the Parc des Princes with the opening goal in the 32nd minute, and it was a bit of a shocker from the home side. Yohann Maignan hooked a hopeful ball into the box which no PSG defender dealt with. Alan Virginius did brilliantly to take it down and, after a slight scramble, Habib Keita forced the ball over Arnau Tenas and into the net.
Mayulu thought he had got a goal on his debut just before half-time but his supposed equaliser was ruled out by VAR for a foul in the build-up. Achraf Hakimi hit the bar as the home side pushed for an equaliser, and eventually, Enrique felt the need to bring on Kylian Mbappé and Marquinhos, the Brazilian making his record-equalling 435th appearance for the club.
Mbappé was involved right away, heading straight at the Clermont keeper after Ramos hit the bar when he really should have scored. The pair combined in style with just four minutes to rescue their side from humiliation. Ramos picked up the ball deep, played it to Mbappé on the edge of the box, who then returned it to the Portuguese striker to calmly slot home.
