Australia women’s national football team, the Matildas, shrugged off hosts Kenya 2-0 on Wednesday 15, April 2025 at Nyayo Stadium to lift the FIFA Series 2026 title.
Goals from Chelsea striker Samantha Kerr and Everton defender Clare Wheeler was all the visitors needed to finish the competition with a perfect record after overcoming Malawi in their semi-finals clash.

Kerr scored the opener from a simple shot from a corner kick on the right after the hosts defence failed to clear their lines. Goalkeeper Lilian Onyango let the ball slip off her palms, and it rolled into the net in the 24th minute.
While Kenya maintained a respectable scoreline at half time with the 1-0 margin, the Matildas increased the lead through Wheeler who twisted and turned past three red shirts before drilling her effort past Onyango in the 54th-minute.
Australia ought to have increased their tally three minutes later but were denied a clear goal after the referee Yordanos Mulugeta declared that a strike by Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord did not land into the roof of the net.

Harambee Starlets had opportunities to get a goal of their own but were constantly denied by the visitors’ defence and the brilliance of Australia goalkeeper Mackenzie Arnold.
While Australia finished top of the Series with Kenya coming second, the India women’s football team finished third after registered a thrilling 3-2 win over Malawi in the third-place play-off.
Astam Oraon (18′), Aveka Singh (45+1′), and substitute Priyadharshini Selladurai (84′) were on target for India, while Khumalo Ireen (42′) and Henry Deborah (60′) scored for Malawi at the Nyayo National Stadium.
