Junior Starlets head coach Mildred Cheche has unveiled her squad for Kenya’s decisive FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifying tie against Uganda women’s national under-17 football team later this month.

Kenya will begin the two-legged assignment away in Uganda on May 22, with the first leg scheduled for FUFA Stadium at 4pm, before returning home for the reverse fixture at Nyayo National Stadium on May 30 at 3pm.

Cheche has opted to keep faith with the majority of the players who guided the Junior Starlets past Namibia in the previous round, with only a few alterations made to the squad.

The changes have largely been influenced by injury setbacks. Defender Rose Nangila has been left out after undergoing surgery, while Lindey Weey also misses the trip after picking up an injury that will keep her out for around two weeks.

To fill the gaps, Cheche has turned to Daisy Adongo and Grace Wangari. Adongo strengthens the defensive ranks, while Wangari offers creativity in midfield as Kenya looks to gain an edge over Uganda. Midfielder Noelina Akuku has also earned a place in the team, adding balance with her ability to operate in both attacking and defensive roles.

The Junior Starlets are expected to leave for Uganda on May 19 before flying back to the country a day after the first leg.

Having impressed in the earlier stages of the qualifiers, Kenya will now be targeting another strong performance as they continue their pursuit of a place at the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.
