Starlets Join Four-Nation WAFCON Prep Tournament

Kenya women’s national football team, Harambee Starlets, will take part in a Four Nations Tournament set to be held in Lusaka, Zambia, in June as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The competition will bring together Kenya, hosts Zambia women’s national football team, Zimbabwe women’s national football team and Burkina Faso women’s national football team in a series of international matches aimed at sharpening squads ahead of the continental tournament.

Starlets will open their campaign against Zimbabwe on June 6 before facing Zambia on June 9 in what is expected to provide a strong test for the Kenyan side.

The tournament comes at an important stage for the Starlets as they continue preparations for the 2026 WAFCON finals scheduled to take place in Morocco from July 25 to August 16.

According to the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, Zambia are the highest-ranked side among the four nations at position 64 globally. Burkina Faso are ranked 118th, Zimbabwe 127th, while Kenya sit just behind in 128th place.

For Kenya, the tournament will serve as a key opportunity to build momentum and improve cohesion ahead of their return to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, ten years after making their maiden appearance at the 2016 edition.
