Eric Kapaito gave them a 39th minute lead after Stephen Etyang’s cross was met by Thomas Omolle who nodded across goal for the striker to finish with aplomb.
If the first half belonged to Tusker, Mathare turned the tide in the second. With relegation now becoming a reality after the Kapaito goal, the John Kamau side refused to bow down.
The tactician had introduced David Okoth ten minutes after resumption and the player delivered almost immediately. He was to head in the equalizer after connecting to a lob from Musa Masika following a short corner in the 69th minute before Isaac Omweri gave them the lead a minute later.
Okoth wasn’t done again as he ensured that the points were safe a minute from time when he was to tap in from close range a minute from time after keeper Brian Opondo had parried a shot from Mike Oduor into his path.
