Senegal have finished third at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) following their 4-2 penalty kick shootout win over Sudan after a 1-1 draw in regular time in a clash staged at Kampala Uganda on Friday evening.

Sudan who had surprised everyone in the tournament took a sixth minute lead when awful marking from the Senegalese defense left towering striker Mohamed Teya wide open to head in Abdel Raouf’s corner kick from six yards out.

Senegal dominated the game after the setback with Sudan goalkeeper Mohamed Elnour called to action so many times but the defending Champions couldn’t get past them in the first half.

Senegal’s knocking was rewarded on the hour mark when Ousseynou Seck’s cross from the right wing was headed in by Mbaye Ndiaye for the equalizer.

Both teams had opportunities in the final half hour but remained level with a penalty shootout arriving following the full time whistle.

Sudan star Walieldin Khidir was to miss the opening spot kick with Senegal converting all four of their attempts while Sudan also missed their third penalty.
