The East Africans took a 27th minute lead when Dismas Athanasi calmly finished inside the box to hand Tanzania a deserved lead. Mozambique’s problems worsened eight minutes later after Pascoal Miambo turned the ball into his own net under pressure, sending Tanzania into the break with a comfortable two-goal cushion.

Tanzania remained in control after halftime and sealed the emphatic victory in the 63rd minute through Razaki Mbegelendi, who capped off a flowing team move to complete a dominant afternoon for the Taifa Stars.
Elsewhere, South Africa staged an impressive comeback to defeat Senegal 2-1 after initially falling behind before halftime.

Cheickh Thior gave Senegal the lead in the 44th minute, but South Africa responded immediately after the restart through Inganathi Simama. Pressure from Amajimbos eventually forced an own goal from Thior in the 55th minute as South Africa held firm to secure all three points.

In another Group C encounter, Angola frustrated former finalists Mali in a goalless draw largely inspired by goalkeeper Gelson Dala, whose string of crucial saves earned him the Man of the Match award.

Meanwhile, Algeria produced a spirited comeback to rescue a 2-2 draw against Ghana after trailing by two goals inside the opening 11 minutes.

Goals from Isaac Barfo and Eric Gyamfi had given Ghana a dream start, but Algeria responded strongly in the second half through Ilyes Grini and Melwane Zaidi to earn a share of the spoils in an entertaining contest.
