Sports Principal Secretary Elijah Mwangi says Kenya remains on track to deliver the required infrastructure ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations despite delays affecting some projects.
Speaking on the progress of the country’s key venues, Mwangi expressed confidence that both the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani and the under-construction Talanta Stadium will be ready before CAF’s inspection scheduled for August.

According to the PS, Talanta Stadium has now reached 88 percent completion, with the government targeting the completion of the main stadium structure by the end of June.
“We are progressing well with the Talanta Sports Complex. At the moment, the project is at 88 percent completion and by the end of June we expect the stadium structure itself to be ready,” said Mwangi.
The facility has faced several deadline extensions since construction began, having initially been expected to open in December 2025 before the completion date was pushed to February 2026.
Attention has also shifted to Kasarani, where renovation works are ongoing after the venue successfully hosted matches during the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), including the final.

Mwangi noted that current works at Kasarani are focused mainly on the playing surface and related facilities, with completion expected in July.
“The contractor is already on site and we expect the playing field at Kasarani to be complete by July,” he added.
Nyayo National Stadium remains on standby for AFCON 2027 and is also expected to serve as a training venue during the tournament.
Beyond the stadiums, the government says it is also investing in supporting infrastructure highlighted by CAF inspectors, including roads, railway connectivity and additional playing fields around the Talanta complex.
Mwangi insisted the broader preparations remain on course as Kenya continues its joint AFCON hosting plans under the PAMOJA bid.
